Setting in motion Finnish dominance of the Decathlon for the best part of a decade, Yrjölä was a prolific record-breaker, thriving at the elite level of the event for 8 years, and winning Olympic GOLD in 1928!!!🥇 Emphasising his all-round athletic abilities, Yrjölä also competed individually in both the High Jump and the Shot Put in those same 1928 Games!!!💪

As the son of a farmer, Yrjölä trained for his whole career on the farm with self-made equipment!✊ He returned to farming post-athletics – managing the family farm until his passing in 1980…🕊️
