William DeHart HUBBARD was the jumper of his generation – having studied at the University of Michigan, he went on to win multiple AAU and NCAA titles in the Long Jump, the Triple Jump, and the 100 yard Dash…by 1922, aged just 18, he was the best Long Jumper in the WORLD [a position he would maintain for several years]!!!👊
HUBBARD kicked on from there…in Paris 1924 he became the first Black athlete to win an individual Olympic GOLD by winning the Long Jump, despite being injured!!!🥇✨
In 1925 HUBBARD finally achieved one of his main ambitions in the sport, by jumping 7.89m to claim the Long Jump WORLD RECORD!!!💥 That same year, he also equalled the 100 yard Dash World Record of 9.6 secs, and in 1927 he soared out to a remarkable 7.98m [a mark only not ratified due to the take-off board being an inch higher than the sand pit]!!!🔥
