By Popular Demandโฆa Tribute to 400m Legend QUINCY WATTSโฆโจ๐บ๐ธโฌ๏ธ
Majestic in his prime, WATTS remains a fan favourite for the way he took the 400m by storm in 1992 aged just 21/22โฆ
His 43.50 secs 400m clocking in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics didnโt only win him GOLD; it was the second time in as many days that he dismantled the OLYMPIC RECORD of 43.86 secs set by the sensational LEE EVANS in 1968 [the then World Record, lasting 20 years!]โฆ๐ฅ
In total, WATTS ran under the magical sub-44 sec 400m Milestone FOUR times, all in that 1992 season: 43.50 secs | 43.71 secs | 43.83 secs | 43.97 secs!!!๐จ
In addition to his individual accolades, WATTS has 4x400m Olympic GOLD [1992] and World Championship SILVER & GOLD [1991 & 1993]; the latter in what remains the current WORLD RECORD in a time of 2 mins 54.29 secs [32 years and counting]!!!๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Having attended USC [University of Southern California] and Taft High School, he has then coached both and is currently the Director of T&F at USC, where his success and positive impact on the sport continues!โ

This incredible signed photo was sent to us by one of our wonderful Followers, @tonywood29 – the photo itself is awesome, but also matched by the story behind itโฆinspired as a young boy by BORZOVโs Gold medal heroics at the 1972 Munich Olympics [Gold in the 100m & 200m], @tonywood29 wrote a letter to the British Embassy in Moscow asking for a signed photo from his sprinting Heroโฆ6 months later [and now over 50 years ago!], BORZOV himself both signed and sent the photo you see, signing not just his name, but also his two legendary marks of the dayโฆ10.0 & 20.0โฆhis 100m & 200m sprint PBs!!!๐ฅ
Immortalised by his 100m & 200m Olympic sprint double at the 1972 Games, he added Olympic 100m Bronze in 1976 to accompany his 4x European Sprint Golds [1969, 1971 & 1974] and 7x European Indoor Golds over 50/60m [1970, 1971, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977]!!!

GREGรRIO achieved the remarkable in 2007 when bettering the legendary 17.89m mark [and former Triple Jump World Record] set by Joรฃo Carlos de Oliveira in 1975 – that performance had stood unbeaten as the South American Record for 32 years before the fellow Brazilian came along with an awesome 17.90m in his home country!โจ๐
At his peak, GREGรRIOโs height was referenced almost as much as his performances [2.02m tall], however his jumping prowess and competitiveness during the early and mid 2000โs shouldnโt be underestimatedโฆa World Championship Silver in 2007, backed up by two World Indoor Silvers [2004 & 2006], two Olympic Top 6 finishes [2004 & 2008], as well as that monster 17.90m PB that is still ranks 12th All-Time for distance 17 years later! ๐
Triple Jump PB = 17.90m [AR & NR]
Long Jump PB = 8.22m | w8.26m
High Jump PB = 2.10m
100m PB = 11.00 secs
For this combination, ranking the โGreatest Ever Sprinterโ we analysed 772 of the very best athletes in History over the flat 100m, 200m & 400m, aggregated their results, and lined them all up against one another!!!๐ฅ
To be in this TOP 10 took some doingโฆat a top-line level, these sprint Legends have individually chalked up 21 Olympic GOLDS, 27 World Championship GOLDS and 19 WORLD RECORDS!!!๐คฏ
Individual Bios for each Legend in this TOP 10 can be found in our Profile and on our Websiteโฆwe hope you enjoyโฆ๐

Harrison was a sensational Triple Jumper with incredible technique – until this year, he was the only athlete to have exceeded 18 metres into a headwind and ranks 18th ALL-TIME via HBM!!!โจ
Harrison won Gold in the 1991 World Championships, with his crowning moment coming in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics – Gold was achieved with a jump of 18.09m into a headwind!!! It remains the Olympic Record 28 years later!!!๐ฅ๐ฅ
A graduate of Kansas State University, he was a three-time NCAA Champion across the Long & Triple Jump, as well as a four-time US Champion!โ
Triple Jump PB = 18.09m [OR]
Long Jump PB = 8.17m / w8.23m
