Jesse Owens is a Legend of Track & Field and the Olympics – his heroic feats at the 1936 Munic Olympics (“Hitler’s Olympics”) etched his name in history for all of time – winner of 4 Golds at those Games in the 100m, 200m, Long Jump & 4x100m!!!
To emphasize his greatness, in 1935 Owens broke 3 World Records in an hour – a feat that remains unequalled!!!
It’s worth noting that Owens had a relatively brief career as an athlete and had the more commonly run distance of that time (the 100 yards) also been factored, he would have jumped inside the Top 5, however the purity of our HBM Rankings for only the 100, is key. Clearly, Owens’ achievements transcend the sport and his overall positive impact is immeasurable – we pay our respects here for now; there will be many more respects to come….
